Sprinkler System Part II

The backyard now has sprinklers! Guess how much we saved by Dad and Ian putting it in themselves? $2500... Yes, it was time consuming and Ian can barely move today... but it's so worth it!

This weekend was much warmer than the first. It was such a nice day yesterday! It took all day, but they got it done!

Brooke even came to help!

Remnants of the stumps needed to be removed. Lumberjack Brooke to the rescue...

Tulips are my favorite! This is the second set we've had bloom. They're in a bunch of weeds, but it makes me happy to see them. Especially while the rest of the yard is under destruction.

He's just so cute when he's handy!

I'm sure it wouldn't have taken so long if we didn't have to run to town TWICE for parts! The first time we went, Brooke and I were on a wild goose chase! Home Depot, Lowes, back to Home Depot, Cal Ranch, Pipeco, and finally ACE came through for us.

How many Lowes employees does it take to help you not find something you need... 4! Yep, that is definitely one of my least favorite stores. Still.

Had to go back to Home Depot a third time, and Lowes a second time on my second trip to town. Dear home improvement stores, please carry all parts we need and keep them in stock! Thanks. That was exhausting all in its self...

Ian just needs to adjust a few of the heads now. Pretty hard to see in the dark... Gotta water lots to let it settle, harrow one more time, then we should be ready to plant!

New Bed

Buying a bed is a big deal! I mean how many times are you going to do it in your lifetime??

Our hand-me-down was well past it's prime. It made all sorts of funny noises and springs would pop you in the back all night long! You would think that if you are laying on a bed, and pressing springs down with your body, they wouldn't pop up so hard... Just a thought.

We had fun mattress shopping. Something we've never done before! Gary at Denver Mattress was a good little salesman. Very helpful and informative, but not pushy.

We left there with the intent to keep looking. Those beds were pretty expensive... Ian's laying on our favorite one. After other stores, we realized there was no comparison! So back to Gary we went. I've learned too many times, just pay the extra money for something good. You end up doing it in the end anyways.... Plus, how much of your life is spent sleeping??

I love our king bed! It's the best thing ever. Now I won't have to want one so bad everytime we go to a hotel. Although... we're still getting used to how far away from each other we are! The bottom is coil, but the top is memory foam. So we kind of sink in (but a comfortable sink...). It's kind of hard to "scoot" anywhere, but we're getting used to it.

I've never slept better. I wake up in the morning and am in the same place and position I went to sleep in. I think that's a good sign. Plus, I don't have crazy, wild hair! It's looks the same as I went to bed with.

Gary even included one FREE pillow! Well, that's one more than we had before.... Haha! We also got a FREE TV from Best Buy! We're excited to go pick it up soon.

Now all we need are some cute nightstands with even cuter lamps. And I'd still like to paint the wall the beds up against a burnt orange. Oh, and I guess we still need bedding. We ran to walmart and got a "spare sheet". Yuck! I want my 500 thread counts back... Plus it doesn't fit all that well, so we wake up with bunchy sheets. Oh well, need to wait for my sheets to go on sale, and till we have some extra money... I'm excited to pick out a new comforter though!

3rd Flat Tire's a Charm

No, not really... Never a dull moment.

I'm hoping I won't have another flat tire for a long time. Although, I think both of us are now confident in Ian's tire changing skills :) Plus after watching him, I feel like if it came down to it, I might even be able to do it. Did you know my car came with a jack?? I sure didn't!

Always a happy moment when you can't find your husband in the house and realize he's outside performing his manly duties. As he put it: "Responsibility is a bleepity bleep." Haha! Poor guy. All he wanted to do was play his game. Well, I'm glad to have a husband that will take care of me when it's definitely not the most fun option.

Nail in the tire... Thank you parking lot at work... I had to park in a different spot than normal because of some irrigation flooding issues. The tire was pretty flat... We didn't know if it would have been ok to drive to the gas station and fill it up. We also didn't know if the air would hold till I got to town, so Ian took charge and changed his first tire!

The size difference was ridiculous. I forgot how scrawny spare tires are. It did not give me much confidence to drive in to town.

My car was definitely more squirrely, but I made it. Right as they were closing too... They were nice enough to still fix it for me.

Gotta love those life experiences that make you grow up and have to be an adult. I suppose it was a little character building. I hate the unknown, the unexpected, and doing stuff alone! I was nervous, but it wasn't too bad... Dear life: Just don't make me ever have to be towed again. Ever! :)

Cinco de Mayo

Our little Cinco de Mayo party was pretty fun! It consisted of:

A mexican potluck.

Margaritas. (They were virgin.. but that's ok :)

Pictionary.

A cat and mouse pinata game.

(It was too cold outside for a regular pinata. Not sure why Stephanie wouldn't want to hang one in her living room... :)

And... kiddos running for candy!

Gabriella was just too cute! I could hold her all night.

  • 3 (11 ounce) cans whole kernel corn, drained
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 (7 ounce) can diced green chilies
  • 2/3 cup green onion, chopped
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 (8 ounce) container sour cream

Directions:

  1. In a medium to large bowl, combine sour cream, mayonnaise, and cumin.
  2. Stir well.
  3. Add corn, cheese, chiles, black pepper, and onions to the sour cream mixture.
  4. Stir til all is combined.
  5. Cover and chill for 2 hours or overnight.
*I added a little cilantro, green pepper, fresh jalapeno, and garlic & onion powder.

Within Walking Distance

One of Kaylee's last games was a block away from my house. Best thing ever! I don't usually get to walk to games.... Sure I could have driven, but by the time I parked far enough away so my car wouldn't get hit, it was about the same distance :)

One of the first things I learned going to her games, DO NOT PARK CLOSE! I've seen way too many cars get hit...

There were so many foul balls this night! I don't think I've seen so many in a game before. I'm sure the wind had something to do with it...

It was super fun to see her actually get to play. Also enjoyed hanging out with Dad and Brooke. Hadn't seen Brooke in months!

Daddy daughter date to Mick's afterwards! Been a while since all sisters have been together. It was so tasty Ian and I went there for lunch the next day! I love where we live :)
